Instructor Mentoring Program Report – Integrative Approach to Yoga Practice and Teaching

On March 7, 2026, an instructor mentoring program was conducted at Kim Yanghee Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Busan under the Korea Therapy Yoga Association. This program was designed to support yoga instructors in integrating their personal practice with teaching methodology.

The session focused on three key elements: understanding the purpose of each movement, identifying muscle engagement, and applying breath-based practice. Participants explored familiar asanas from a new perspective, emphasizing functional movement and body awareness.

Special attention was given to slow and sustained breathing, which helped enhance concentration and promote nervous system regulation. This approach aligns with recent trends in integrative therapy and neuro-based yoga practices.

The mentoring session also addressed teaching communication skills, highlighting the importance of clear and concise verbal cues in guiding students safely and effectively.

Led by Yanghee Kim, an experienced instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience and Ashtanga Yoga Authorization Level 2 certification, the program combined practical teaching with academic insights from her publications and research.

This mentoring model demonstrates the value of integrating experiential knowledge with structured education in yoga teaching. A second session is scheduled for April 2026.
