English Summary

Daejeon — The Korea Therapy Yoga Association (KTYA) and Kim Yanghee Ashtanga Yoga held an ¡°Ashtanga Yoga Basic Free Completion Course¡± on March 21 at the Daejeon training center. The program was designed for both beginners and yoga instructors who wanted a clearer, safer, and more practical understanding of Ashtanga yoga.

Rather than focusing only on copying postures, the course emphasized alignment principles, direction of force, breathing, and body awareness. Participants were guided to understand how each movement works within the body, helping them approach Ashtanga yoga not as a forceful or intimidating practice, but as a structured method of restoring balance through breath, alignment, and sensation.

One of the most notable parts of the program was the detailed explanation of alignment, especially during Trikonasana practice. By adjusting stance width and pelvic position, participants experienced how stability and comfort can improve when the body is organized properly, without forcing depth in the pose. Several participants shared that reducing unnecessary effort allowed them to feel greater clarity and less strain in the pelvis and lower back.

The course was also meaningful for instructors. In addition to practical movement guidance, it included useful verbal cues and hands-on teaching points that could be applied directly in real class settings. This helped expand the value of the program from personal practice to teaching methodology.

Overall, the course showed that Ashtanga yoga is not about enduring discomfort or pushing the body, but about developing order, awareness, and sustainable practice. The program in Daejeon helped make Ashtanga yoga more approachable and understandable, while offering both practitioners and teachers a stronger foundation for future practice and instruction.
